Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Diesel And Fortuner Soon In India

As we said earlier, Toyota India is getting new vehicles across all segments from small cars to sedan level like Yaris. The company has said that they would launch a small car in 2011 and will be priced at $5000 car i.e., for Rs.2 Lakhs.

Land Cruiser diesel:

2009 Toyota Land CruiserToyota India is going to launch the powerful SUV’s such as Fortuner and diesel version of Land Cruiser to India. These SUV’s are big enough and added with a diesel engine. Toyota already sells Land Cruiser Prado with a petrol engine in India, Other than petrol variant, Land Cruiser Prado diesel version will be imported as a CBU.

“The Land Cruiser is under study and the recent changes to the regulations governing the import of vehicles give us an opportunity to bring the model to India,” Sandeep Singh, deputy MD (marketing) of Toyota’s Indian JV Toyota Kirloskar Motors said.

“We are hopeful that a diesel engine will give us more volumes and help get a higher market share,” Singh added.

Toyota Land Cruiser diesel will compete against the likes of BMW X5 and Volkswagen Touareg. Land Cruiser diesel is expected to be priced upwards of Rs.42 Lakhs.

Toyota Fortuner:

2009 Toyota FortunerToyota Fortuner the most expected beast from Toyota India which finally hit the roads in the year 2009. Fortuner is built on the same IMV platform as our Innova will help the Toyota to utilise its full capacity in its Bangalore plant. Toyota Fortuner will come out with a 3.0-Litre D-4D diesel engine again from the same family as the Innova. The Fortuner produces 163bhp and 250Nm of Max torque. The Fortuner is added with a five-speed manual gearbox and an optional four wheel drive compete the powertrain setup.

The Toyota Fortuner will be assembled in India from the first car itself. This results lesser import duty and it is expected to be priced between Rs.18 to Rs.20 Lakhs.
