Honda Motors and Scooter India Ltd is currently planning to launch a 100cc bike in early 2010. This bike will not be a competitive to its sister concern Hero Honda. The company is planning to launch the 100cc bike with more sportier in the Indian market added with power and performance.
HMSI is already selling the Unicorn 150 and Shine 125 in India, which will be ready to launch a 100cc bike next year. Honda claims that the 100cc machine will be well equipped than any current 100cc bike on the market today.
HMSI has not revealed yet about the details or even a word, we suspect the new Honda 100 will be fuel-injected, which will boost its power / performance, as well as fuel-efficiency. This means the 100cc bike from Honda will be priced higher than the existing model available in India but the company would not worry much to sell as it got the Honda tag which will still sell very well.
As we think the 100cc bike segment is currently dying but if you see the report as per SIAM, no less than 34 Lakh bikes in the 75-125cc segment were sold in the country between April 2008 and January 2009, so HMSI may not worry too much to meet its 2 Lakh units sales target which it has set for its 100cc bike for 2010.
Honda has focused well on the lower and the high end but why not in the middle, Got confused? ok, the company has revealed 125cc, 150cc, 1000cc bikes in India and why not Honda try to launch the 250-400cc segment as it cost anywhere between Rs.1.5-2.5 Lakh but we think it is an untold mystery.
