Skoda India is currently planning to gain its market share in the Indian market by attaining to revamp its prices on all models present in the current.

Skoda India launched its superb luxury sedan with a lower price tag of Rs.18.88 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) as against the outgoing model which priced of more than Rs.20 Lakh.

The new Superb comes with a new turbocharged petrol engine. It also has some extra features such as a front and rear parking sensor, pedal shift for the seven-speed gearbox and eight front and rear seat airbags.

SAI head (sales and marketing) Thomas Kuehl said, “India is an extremely price sensitive market where we got the pricing wrong for our earlier models. All our future cars would be very aggressively priced.”

Skoda, which sold 522 Superb in the last 11 months (April-February 2009) in the country, is looking to sell at least 1,000 units in 2009. Superb is pitted against the segment leader Honda’s Accord besides Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry.

The company is also re-working on the prices of existing cars besides looking at attractively priced new products. Skoda plans to launch sports utility vehicle Yeti and the new variant of sedan Laura in India this year.

Skoda’s products are viewed as high priced affecting their sales in India. For instance, its premium hatchback Fabia is one of the highest priced cars in its segment. SAI sold 5,239 Fabia’s in India in the April-February period, half of its original target.
