Maruti Suzuki India Limited announced that it has already shipped out 30000 units of its “A-Star” car to be sold by the Nissan Motor Company as Pixo in UK. The company initially shipped 2000 units last month; all the cars have been exported from India’s largest carmaker from its dedicated port at Mundra in Gujarat.
The 5-door hatchback car, which has been contract- manufactured by Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Indian arm for Nissan’s left-hand drive markets in Europe, essentially a rebadged and restyled version of Maruti Suzuki A-Star, a new car the company launched in the Indian market six months ago. The car fitted with a 1.0 litre petrol engine and has 5+1 gear box had initially graced the roads of Netherlands and Denmark. It is to be mentioned that Maruti has bagged the order from Nissan to make and export 30,000 Pixo (which is scalable) in the current financial year and a special vessel, Euro Spirit, will ferry the consignment. Just like the A-star, Nissan Pixo is being solely manufactured at Maruti’s state-of-the-art facility at Manesar near Gurgaon in Haryana.
According to a senior representative of Nissan Europe, the company continuing the theme of compact urban motoring, with outstanding green credentials - but this time for the more immediate future, Pixo is an accessible city car which offers low emissions and consumption at an extremely accessible price. Pixo is a five-door, four-seater with a roomy interior and generous luggage space thanks to its efficient design and packaging. Due to its brand new lightweight construction, with resulting benefits in performance, very low fuel consumption and emissions, it will be among the best value eco-cars in the small city car category for Nissan in Europe. The governments in Germany and UK have been giving incentives wherein you can exchange your previous generation emission vehicle with a new generation one. Due to this, the A-Star, which is sold as Alto by Maruti has received a good response and orders are showing an upward trend and we hope a similar response for Pixo.
Pixo is 3565 mm long, 1470 mm tall and 1600 mm wide. It has a wheelbase of 2360 mm. The car is a brand new four-seater competing in the fast growing A-segment. Unlike some of its immediate rivals, however, Pixo is far from a micro car. It has five doors to ease ingress and egress to and from the rear seats but remains sufficiently compact to be agile to be ideal for city driving.
Maruti Suzuki plans to export one Lakh units of A-Star, of which 30,000 are under contract with Nissan, 60,000 will be sold as Alto by Maruti itself and 10,000 by Suzuki in Latin America, Algeria, Australia and some rich African counties.
