Volvo is currently planning to launch its XC60 in India by this September. It is just a younger sibling of the already selling Volvo XC90. With the newest segment of crossovers invading the market, Volvo XC60 is here to stay, thanks to its youth approach. XC60 is designed to attract the next generation buyers.
The XC60 will be available with same inline five-pot diesel and straight 6-cylinder petrol engines which power the XC90 and S80. The XC60 will power the front wheels and will compete with the BMW X3 and Audi Q5.
XC60 has sweeping headlights on the corners of its upright nose and has slightly flared arches which give it a look of underlying dominance. It has come out of the usual Volvo mould with its captivating interiors. The optional two tone leather upholstered seats, futuristic Centre console embedded with climate control buttons which Volvo likes to term is at as floating console, storage space behind the console for small items and LCD read outs portraying various messages on vehicle functions and a larger display of navigation is so out and out into the future.
Like any luxury crossover SUV, XC60 has plenty of ground clearance to make it adapt to Indian conditions. Just as in other Volvos, the XC60 comes with new safety technologies like the brake assist, hill descent control and even am alter system which send out warnings when it senses if the driver is getting drowsy.
India is gearing itself until September for the launch of this butch vehicle. XC60 might as well decorate with its famed 3.2litre straight-six cylinder petrol engine, which is already installed in XC90 and S80. Indians who have a flair for diesel engines can rejoice as it is in the offing too. But with the absence of all wheel drive option and just a front wheel drive in the XC60, BMW X3 and Audi Q5 have an edge on this great value for moolah SUV.

Designed by Steve Mattin, the design director at Volvo Car Corporation, the XC60 shares the same diesel engine as that on the S80 and XC90 sold in India. Though a petrol variant is available, the company will focus on its diesel version in India.
Too keep with Volvo’s tradition of unparalleled safety in cars, the new XC60 focuses even on the minutest of details with respect to safety. The extensive array of advanced safety features on the XC60 includes whiplash protection, traction control, roll stability control, intelligent driver information system, anti-skid system, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, adaptive seatbelts, and collision warning with brake support.
The price of Volvo XC60 is expected to be anywhere between Rs 27 and 32 Lakh in India, placing it above the Nissan X-Trail but below the Mitsubishi Montero.
