Reva Electric Car Company (RECC) a Bangalore based electric vehicle company is getting ready to build the world’s largest electric vehicle factory, capable of producing 30000 units of small plug-in cheap electric cars per annum.

RECC has announced that it is building its new manufacturing facility to cost Rs 300 million near company its company head quarters in Bangalore and will start its production in the first quarter of 2010.

RECC produces two variants of its REVA right now, with 2+2 seat configuration. This electric car with 2+2 configuration has a sitting capacity for two adults and two kids, and is a small hatchback powered by eight six-volt batteries. The two REVA variants are “REVA i” and “REVA L-ion”.

‘REVA i’ has the lead-acid batteries; it has a nominal range of 80 km (50 mi) per charge and a top speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). ‘REVA L-ion’ has a Lithium-ion batteries; it has faster acceleration and a nominal range of 120 km (75 mi) per charge. The company built the REVA-NXG, a two-seater roadster concept car with a nominal range of 200 km (124 mi) per charge and a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph) in the year 2005. By the end of 2009, RECC has plans to launch the roomier four-seater model. RECC also makes a Golf cart called FERI.

REVA Electric Car Company (RECC) is a JV between Maini Group of India and AEV LLC of California and the venture is supported by the lead US investors Global Environment Fund and Draper Fischer Jurvetson. The market price of RECC electric cars is Rs 350,000 in India and £7,500 ($12,200) in the United Kingdom. REVA electric cars are also available in Ireland, Switzerland, Malta, Cyprus, Norway, Spain, Italy, Germany, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Austria, Japan, and Australia.
