Skoda’s Small Car Based On Volkswagen Up Platform
Skoda’s new city car will be based on the Volkswagen Up platform and to be named as “Popular”
The Popular strategy is to develop parts of the world where there is demand for small and economical cars. The city will make its first appearance in 2012, and we have already reported earlier about it.
Skoda is planning to play a different role to establish more at the compact car and it does not seems to launch SUV’s and grand sedans in the line-up, but its plans for the future insists will be more budget than power set.
Skoda is planning for a bigger hatchback that will accompany between the Fabia and the Octavia and plans to make a low-cost Octavia for India and other Asian countries.
Skoda will get into the small car to directly meet the rivals like Fiat Topolino, Toyota iQ and Smart Fortwo while on the other hand, a low-cost model could be meant for Indian consumption.
Skoda new Pune facility will manufacture both Volkswagen and Skoda cars point out a strong possibility of it being manufactured alongside the Up! in the future.
The Skoda Popular will be 3.5 meters in length, short enough to qualify for tax benefits.
