The next step of Volvo involves its presence in Ahmedabad and Bangalore. Still it is unable to sell the cars in large volume as the market is dominated by Mercedes and BMW. Narayan says, “We are currently not in a position to give numbers of the units sold. But the numbers are decent. We are able to give volumes and talk of market share when we have footprint on a par with our competitors, who have 12 to 14 dealers across the country”.
Volvo has an expectation that the luxury car market will be growing in India strongly and there will be a large number of people opting for the luxury cars price ranging from Rs 20-25 lakh. Last year the segment sold 8000 units with a growth of 25-30% and is expected with annual sales reaching up to 10,000 units in this year.
