Bajaj-Renault is currently going through a techno-economic feasibility study of its small car coded ULC (Ultra Low Cost), and will be firming up its plans according to the report.

Bajaj Auto Limited has recently announced that its upcoming small car that will give you a maximum mileage than any small car in the country. It might postpone the launch date due to several reasons like branding, positioning, price and specifications which are not finalised yet. The company has also stated that the ULC project is on track and the car’s design and development is being carried out.

Furthermore, unlike Tata Motors, whose ultra-cheap car-Nano sports a price tag of Rs. 1 lakh, Bajaj claims that its car will not sell on the basis of the price, but its fuel-efficiency. The car will be manufactured at Chakan, near Pune and the plant, which is being built with an initial capacity of 250,000 units, will also produce the light trucks in the next few years. It has also been learnt from Business Standard that Bajaj is keen to equip its proposed car with its patented digital twin-spark plug technology.

Bajaj Auto, which unveiled its ‘Lite’ concept small car, has earlier stated that Renault would be doing the complete body-work, which includes the suspension, while Bajaj will be working on engine and transmission. The company has affirmed its fuel efficiency to be its core competence than other low-cost cars by its competitors and will be twice as economical to run as any small car.
