Nissan Motors Company that has plans to roll out electric cars in US, Japan and European markets in 2010 and is also getting out with details that might get similar vehicles in the Indian market.

Nissan Motors Company has not mentioned any timeline details as yet but the company has also given a hint that India is one of the emerging markets for them and it would offer models in various segments, depending on the market needs.

Nissan Motor Corporation chief executive Carlos Ghosn was quoted as saying to PTI,”If there is a market, yes sure. There is absolutely no limitation for where the car will go. The global mass marketing (of the EVs) will start from 2012 but we are starting it in 2010 in Japan, US and Europe. Then we are going to ramp up. I think India will probably come at a later stage because of infrastructure, and infrastructure is very important.”

Though the zero-emission models have not yet been earmarked for the Indian market, there was a lot of buzz that Nissan Leaf will be the first car to be launched in the country.

“We definitely want to introduce Leaf in India. I have already requested the Nissan headquarters to study the possibility of introducing Leaf in India,” Kiminobu Tokuyama, CEO, Nissan India told Business Line. And there is a probability that China will additionally be in a list of countries where Leaf will symbol a debut

Nissan Leaf, which was unveiled at Nissan’s headquarters Yokohama in Japan, runs 160 km on a single charge, would be priced on a par with gasoline-run cars, excluding the cost of battery, as claimed by Carlos Ghosn while unveiling the model.
