Mercedes Benz recently stopped planning to market CNG vehicles in India because it doesn’t want its customers to stand on a queue to refill its tank.
The company planned to roll out CNG variants of the Mercedes E-Class sedan. The company also stopped due to shortage of fuelling stations that resulted to discomfort for its customers has led to the cancellation of alternate fuel plans.
Mercedes Benz was testing a CNG variant of the E-Class till last year that gave a mileage figure of 18-20 kilometers per kilogram of CNG costing Rs 21. Most of the sales are popping up on the diesel variants that account 60% of its total sales of the E-Class model.
Mercedes in India is also involved in a jatropha plant-based biodiesel project for the last six years in association with the Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute and the University of Hohenheim.
