Narendra Modi, CM of Gujarat is getting interest on Maruti Suzuki to build a plant in Sanand, Gujarat. This will increase the States image.
He has said “he would love to see Maruti Suzuki setting up an export-oriented plant in his state.”
While inaugurating the Asia’s first Rs. 20-crore driving and technical training institute managed by Maruti Suzuki at Gajadara, Modi said, it would be in the interest of company as it would be cheaper and economically viable to export cars from Mundra Port to Europe and other countries. It is to be mentioned that certain export-oriented cars like A-star, etc rolled out by Maruti Suzuki at Haryana are brought to Mundra for exports.
“Setting up a car project in Gujarat will help it save on transportation cost. With the Tatas setting up Nano car project at Sanand in Gujarat, it is the turn for Maruti to do so and the state government is ready to provide all the facilities,” Modi added.
Maruti Suzuki India is expected to double its exports from Mundra port to nearly 1 lakh units. , the company had exported 70,000 units, and this year, 86,000 cars are already being exported. To enhance its export business, Maruti Suzuki is also seeking a dedicated railway line to transport its cars from the Manesar manufacturing plant to the Mundra port in Gujarat. It is to be mentioned that currently it has to transport its vehicles through juggernauts which take them to the nearest railway station in Gurgaon- a distance of 18 km exclusively reported by Economic Times.
‘DNA’ has reported exclusively that MSI is holding talks with the Haryana government and the Ministry of Railways to get a dedicated railway track laid between the nearest station (called Patli) and its factory.
