Ducati is recently opened its second showroom in Gurgaon India and aiming to sell 150 units of Superbikes in India by 2010.
Ducati India sells bikes in the range between from Rs 14-60 lakh and the company hopes bike enthusiasts will overlook the cost factor and lap up its products. “The bike culture runs in the genes here,” says Ducati Asia-Pacific CEO Mirko Bordiga.
The company thinks India has bigger potential than China in this segment where at present the Indian superbike segment sees annual sales of 1000 units and compared to China, it is limited to 100 units annually due to government restriction to sell small-engine bikes.
Ducati India is currently aiming to open four dealerships in 2010 in addition to the existing two.
Ducati sell high-powered engine capacity bikes from 500cc to 2500cc that comes under the superbike category and there is a lot of potential to increase the sales momentum.
“The superbike demand in India is consistently growing,” said Suzuki Motorcycle India marketing & sales vice-president Atul Gupta.
