Facts :

  • All Mini Cars for India will come equipped with a six-speed automatic transmissions
  • The Mini Brand to be sold via three exclusive dealerships
  • The Mini Cars will enter India as Completely Built Units (CBU)

The Much awaited Mini Brand has been finally launched at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. The Mini brand is owned by the BMW group. The buzz around the Mini Pavilion in the Auto Expo is something one has to witness to believe it. We take a quick look what the Mini Brand has in store for us in India.

Mini launched four models for the Indian asphalt. The iconic standard Mini Cooper at Rs. 24.9 Lakh, the Cooper S at Rs. 27.9 Lakh, Cooper Convertible at Rs. 29.99 Lakh and lastly the Countryman crossover at Rs. 31.99 Lakh. The BMW group has made their plans clear for the Mini Brand. The company has confirmed the Mini Brand will be sold via a completely different dealership network and three dealerships have already been finalized. Deutsche Motoren and Bird Automotive in New Delhi and Infinity Cars in Mumbai.

The Iconic Mini Cooper hatchback starts the game for the Mini Brand in India. It will retail at 24.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Don’t expect the Mini Cooper Hatchback to come cheap. The Mini Cooper Hatchback will enter India via the Completely Built Unit (CBU). The Mini Cooper Hatchback has great retro touch in it. A quick at the 2012 Mini Cooper Hatchback we noticed  large circular dials for the speedometer and tachometer. The Mini Cooper Hatchback can ideally seat four; however a two occupant drive in the three-door body style will sure bring about more comfort. The big question most car enthusiasts had on their mind was the engine specifications for India. The Mini Cooper Hatchback will be powered by 1.6-litre petrol engine which will generate 122bhp at 6000rpm and 16.3kgm of torque at 4250rpm. If you feel that lacks a punch then you can opt for the Mini Cooper S which retails at  at Rs 27.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Mini Cooper S engine is identical to Mini Cooper however with the help of a twin-scroll turbocharger the engine now will produce 184bhp at 5500rpm and 24.47kgm of torque which kicks in between 1600-5000rpm.

The Third model for India is the Cooper Convertible. If you love open-top motoring with the Mini charm look no further. The Mini Cooper Convertible should be your choice. The Mini Cooper Convertible retails at at Rs 29.99 lakh (ex-showroom delhi) which makes it the cheapest convertible available in India. The same engine that does the duties in the Mini Cooper Hatchback will go about its duties in the Mini Cooper Convertible as well.

Finally the Mini Cooper  S Countryman five door. There are lot of talks about this countryman. If you are looking for a luxurious family drive with Mini Charm then the Countryman S will fit that portfolio. The Mini Cooper S Countryman is priced at Rs 31.99 lakh and is powered by a 184bhp 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. Good ride height, comfortable luxurious seating and the Mini Charm will sure make the Countryman S a perfect Car for a long luxurious drive.
