We had recently reported that Tata Motors owned Jaguar Land Rover is looking at setting up a manufacturing plant in India. The company would be looking at manufacturing the lower range of engines from the future plant. One of the question that now comes up is that would JLR supply engines to other manufacturers? To this question Jaguar Land Rover Chief Executive Officer Ralf Speth promptly responded “No we will not supply to other manufacturers. It can be for both Tata and JLR. There we are open. At the moment, there is no plan and Tata has to make sure
that our engines fit in their products.” Jaguar Land Rover on the other hand still continues to source engines from Ford. Would they new engine plant stop the sourcing from Ford. A question to ponder on; however JLR feels so many different engines and so many different challenges on the engine side — smaller engines, bigger engines, hybrids etc the sourcing will continue but some very specific engines, the requirement from Ford may decrease. Jaguar Land Rover is being well received in India, however it would take sometime from them to overtake their competitors Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW as most of these leading manufacturers have introduced smaller vehicles in their indian porfolio. What can we expect from JLR in the coming days – Stay Tuned !
