Ford Employees Detained for Staging Demonstration

Ford Motor India detained 450 employees for staging a demonstration at the factory at Maraimalainagar. The employees were demanding the reinstatement of their sacked colleagues. The employees alleged that Ford Motor had sacked nine workers and the agitating workers were only demanding that they be re-hired. One of the major concerns of a strike or protest in the car industry is the affect it has on production. Ford has confirmed that this protest has had no affect on production. So for the moment Ford does not look affected by this strike; however the employees on the strike are looking at reinstatement of the sacked employees. Ford has confirmed in a company statement that that services of nine employees had been ‘terminated’ for violating the company’s code of integrity. Ford currently manufacturers several models, including the latest Global Fiesta, premium hatchback Figo and premium SUV Endeavour at the Maraimalainagar.
