Mahindra and Mahindra have planned to launch a new tractor during the end of this year and it will be the first tractor to be launched after seven years from its stable. The new tractor will be designed at the new inaugurated Mahindra Research Valley, near Chennai. It will be built at the company’s Nagpur plant. However, in future the tractors will be built at the company’s Rs 300-crore new plant in Jehirabad in Andhra Pradesh. This plant will be ready by July.
“It has been a very long time since we launched a new tractor,” said Dr Pawan Goenka, President, Automotive & Farm Equipment Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra.
The XUV5oo SUV was the first product to be designed and developed at the valley. The research facility is an automobile and tractor R&D centre from the group which was inaugurated today. The company has invested of Rs 650 crore, the Valley is located on 125 acres inside the Mahindra World City, near Chennai. The Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of the Mahindra group, Mr Anand Mahindra, described the Valley as “a cradle of the group’s future growth.”. This will help the group’s dream of making into the list of the world’s top 50 most-respected brands, he said.
The Valley, which was formally inaugurated today by the former President, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, has 34 labs — an engine development centre, a fatigue test lab, alternative fuels, passenger safety and polymer technologies. Dr Kalam said that the facility should work on issues like fuel efficiency and use of bio-fuel in vehicles.
