Toyota Etios Motor Racing joins Colombo Night Race

Motorsports is now receiving that attention in SAARC countries that the motorsport enthusiasts missed in last decade. After the successful tryst in India, Toyota has taken its successful motor-racing division Etios Motor Racing to Colombo Night Races 2012. The second edition of Colombo Night Race took place on 14th and 15th December in which 10 cars of Etios Motor Racing Division participated. The EMR cars competed with globally acclaimed racing spec cars such as Formula McLaren 1300, GT-4, SL-GT and GT3.

CSN and Carlton Sports were the organisers of 2011 edition Colombo Night Races (CNR). CNR11 edition was a highly successful event but the thrill and adventure showcased in CNR12 edition was extraordinary at Colombo Fort areas. Apart from Carlton Sports and CSN, other collaborating partners were Asian Motor Racing Club and Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club.

Out of the 10 drivers which drove EMR cars, eight were of Indian origin and the other two were Srilankan natives. EMR selected these drivers on the basis of their performance in the exhibition race held at leisure valley in Gurgaon earlier this year. The drivers which participated in the race are as follows; Amey S. Rane, Akhil Rabindra, Yayathi Varma, Keith D’Souza,  Mezaan Anees, Binoy John Maddela ,  Akhil Rabindra and Abhinay Bikkani.


Meanwhile Volkswagen Polo R Cup India driver Munjal Savla, who hails from Mumbai has registered a win this category at the Colombo Night Races 2012. The National karting champion Ameya Bafna, again from Mumbai, came in third.
Etios Motor Racing (EMR) was first introduced at the Auto Expo 2012 in Delhi. The concept cars for the Etios Series motor sports were revealed at Auto Expo 2012. Toyota Kirloskar Motors is planning to take the EMR dealership operations across 25 dealerships and 15 cities of the nation. TKM is already a known name in motorsports and the Etios Motor Racing championship will be supported by one of the most celebrated and highly praised companies in motorsport history, Toyota Racing Development (TRD).

The EMR championship will take place in second half of 2013. The tournament will include 5-6 individual race events. Toyota Racing Development will keep providing its technical assistance to the teams participating, while the racing parts of the participating cars will also be provided by TRD. An Indian motorsport organisation, Red Rooster Racing (International) Pvt. Ltd., headquartered in Bangalore will also provide their assistance in organising the event.

According to TKM officials EMR is will be a special platform for upcoming driving talents. The officials further added that this platform will provide more than enough experience to young talented racers so that they will further groom into seasoned drivers in future motorsport events. All the participating drivers will get a lifetime opportunity of being advised by experts of game and will race against some best drivers in business.  The EMR further will showcase the endurance abilities of the company’s model Etios. The Etios cars, powered by TRD racing parts, will cruise in various road shows and exhibition races.
