Mercedes unveiled the new Mercedes E-class today at an event in New Delhi today. The car has been awaited for a while now and it represents an absolutely new character with a great new design. The new Mercedes takes the luxury features in the car to an all new level while making sure that you get all the safety features and assistance systems.
The new Mercedes E class is mid life facelift where the changes are more cosmetic and less mechanical. The new car looks amazing with a lot of fresh bits. The head lights have been redesigned to look even better with LED daytime running lamps. They are now combined and encased in a single lens. Also there is a new grille on the front. The car has got a redesigned bonnet which has nice curves and also the bumper design is fresh.
The side view of the car is not much different except for the slightly different bonnet lines and a fresh set of alloy wheels to go with the new car. On the rear, they have redesigned the tail lamps, exhaust tips and the bumper has been restyled.
Not only on the outside but there are fresh bits inside the car too. The console of the Mercedes E-Class has been redesigned and has been worked well to be made more luxurious. The dashboard can be in aluminum or wood finish to carry on the two part trim. There is a clock on the centre of the console which is analogue. The instrumental cluster is fresh too and the dials are now placed in three separate circular dials.
We might see features like parking assist as we see on Volkswagen Passat and there are a bucket full of safety features as well. Some of them have been borrowed from the previous and current Mercedes S class. The safety features added are stereo multi purpose camera, attention assist, collision prevention assist and few more.
The Mercedes E-Class engines are going to remain the same as the current model but there are minor tweaks to them to optimize performance and efficiency. The petrol engines now use lean burn process and exhaust gas recirculation for better economy. The diesel engines would be fitted with Selective Catalytic Reduction technology to meet the Euro 6 emission norms.
The 2l petrol engine on offer here develops 184 hp of power at 5500 rpm and 300 Nm of torque available from 1200- 4000 rpm. The car would do the 0-100 kmph sprint in just 7.9 seconds and would go all the way upto a top speed of 233 kmph. The diesel engine is 2.2 l developing 204 bhp@4200 rpm and mouth watering torque of 500 Nm available low in the rev range. This would be even quicker to 100 kmph taking 7.5 seconds and going up to a top speed of 242 kmph
