It is no secret that Toyota has been the first automobile company to have introduced a hybrid car in the Indian automobile market in the form of Toyota Prius. It has been recently revealed that the Indian counterpart of the Japanese automobile giant Toyota is soon going to introduce another hybrid car, a hybrid variant of Camry in India in the coming month.
It has been evident that the hybrid automobiles are too less in demand in India to make it a profitable market for them. Despite this, the auto giant is steady at its plan of launching hybrid models one after another. This definitely indicates a much grander plan of the company with a specific aim to become the sole makers of eco-friendly cars at the international platform. Therefore, the launch of the Hybrid Camry in India can be very well an effort of announcing its social statement in the global automobile arena.
The Hybrid Camry is not the same as the non-hybrid version in its looks and visual. The hybrid variant has got differently designed headlamps, modified grille and also an added set of fog lamps. To enhance the fuel economy of the car, it is also fed by a larger and differently designed set of wheels with 17-inches diameter.
The interiors of the Toyota Camry Hybrid also differ from the regular variation with a distinct dashboard with the wooden inserts which are there in the non-hybrid Camry. The displays will be modified with battery driven range read, indicators and other instruments. The seat of the car is awarded with an upholstery which altogether different from the regular Camry.
The hybrid coupe is power packed with the “Hybrid Synergy Drive” adorning a hybrid engine system of petrol plus electric options. The three alternative driving modes offered in the hybrid Camry are the fully petrol, fully electric and electric plus petrol combination.
The petrol engine of the car is in fact an electric variant of gasoline motor of 2.4 litre capacity that fuels up the petrol version. The maximum power that the motor can generate is 148PS with 187Nm as its highest torque. The engines are coupled with an electric motor of 650 Volts with a maximum power generation 142PS and the highest torque of 270 Nm. The combined power of the two sources is 191 PS.
An e-CVT (electronic continuously variable transmission) maintains the transmission duty of the car. The inclusion of the Atkinson cycle in the engine system further marks up the output of the petrol engine of the hybrid. The car’s engine is supplied with the essentials juices through the pack of hybrid nickel battery mounted in the car trunk.
The date of the launch of the Toyota Camry Hybrid is not yet announced but the speculations continue about the launch as well as the price of the car in the Indian market. While the speculations keep up the buzz about the car, it is yet to be seen how it will be received in the Indian market.
