BMW Series 1 Available in India from September 3rd

One of the most awaited cars for the BMW aficionados in India, the BMW Series 1 is finally set to be released on the 3rd September next month. The company made the official announcement for the launch of its premium small Hatchback Series 1 recently. The car is a direct response to the A-Class of Mercedes-Benz, which has been accepted wholeheartedly in the Indian car market.

The company has already sent the notification email to the potential buyers informing about the launch and also taking the advanced booking orders across its dealerships in India. The company has also announced a package of ‘BMW Service Inclusive Plus’ as a giveaway for the first hundred customers. The car made its debut in the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The coupe is based on the platform of the series-3. The cars will be available in India with the options of petrol engine as well the diesel engine. The diesel version of the car has a 2 litre engine that produces a power of 143 bhp, while the petrol version is powered by a direct turbo-charged induction motor of 1.6 liters capacity. The latter is the same as that in the Cooper S and MINI Copper car models from BMW. The petrol engine can produce up to 136 bhp of power. Both the engines come along the automatic transmissions with 8 speeds. The hatchback offers a top speed of 195 km/hr.

As against the front wheel drive Mercedes-Benz A-class, the BMW series 1 has a configuration of rear wheel drive with a balanced weight distribution of 50:50. The car offers a comfortable driving experience on the Indian roads. The car the characteristic interiors of the BMW cars and is spacious and rich-looking with fabric and leather seats, advanced flat screen display controls, central console automatic climate control AC, and much more. Series one is the smallest of the BMW cars with dimensions 4324 mm x 1984 mm x 1421mm. The fuel tank of the hatchback has a capacity of 52 liters.

The car is expected to give a head-on competition to the Mercedes-Benz A-class with its premium features and price range. There are 13 different variants of series 1 available in the global markets. Six of these 13 are petrol variants: M135i xDrive, M135i, 125i, 118i, 116i and 114i, while the other 7 are diesel engine variants: 125d, 120d xDrive, 120d, 118d, 116d EfficientDynamics Edition, 116d and 114d.

The Series 1 model for the Indian markets has been imported through CKD and assembled at the Chennai production plant of BMW. The anticipated price of the car is in between 20- 25 lakhs. The launch of the car was expected in June 2013 which has been delayed by a good three months. Series 1 is the least priced car in India.

The car is available in nine different colors in the international market. The Series 1 is a perfect combination of luxury, comfort, eco-friendliness, safety and economy.
