Hyundai Grand i10 sedan Automatic caught on test

Hyundai is still cashing in on the success of the Grand i10 and at the same time, is readying up its compact sedan version to take on the likes of the Amaze and Dzire. The Grand i10 sedan has been caught testing on numerous occasions and the latest spyshots of the car suggest that it will also get an automatic variant to top it off.  The Grand i10 sedan AT has been caught testing in Chennai and the car will be launched at 2014 Auto Expo in February later this year.

The compact sedan will be powered by the same motors that power the hatchback version. The petrol unit, which in all likelihood will be the one getting the automatic gearbox, is a 1.2 litre motor that develops a maximum power of 82BHP with the peak torque getting rated at 114NM. The top end variant of the car will be the one getting the 4 speed automatic gearbox, however, Hyundai might decide to go the Honda way and introduce a mid range variant as well with an automatic transmission like the Amaze.

The Hyundai Grand i10 sedan will also get a diesel motor under the hood but that will come mated to a 5 speed manual transmission only as the demand for diesel automatics is still pretty negligible in the country. The diesel motor propelling the car will be a 1.1 litre CRDi unit which gives out a maximum power of 70BHP and a peak torque of 160NM. The engine might seem a little underpowered when compared to the likes of the Amaze and Dzire as these feature more powerful diesel motors.

Hyundai might decide to pull a bunny out of the hat and launch the car with the 1.4 litre diesel motor that does duty in the i20 but that seems highly unlikely. The car will be launched in the country on the 4th of February and it is then that all the details about the same will surface. The car, however has been caught testing on numerous occasions near the company’s Chennai facility and as the launch date inches closer, expect a lot more details to trickle in. Stay tuned for more updates regarding the launch of the Grand i10 sedan.
