Datsun Go to be sold through 145 Nissan dealerships

Nissan’s low cost brand, Datsun is all ready to begin its sales and India will be the first country where the Datsun cars will go on sale. Datsun will be announcing the pricing of the Datsun Go in March with the deliveries commencing in March or April this year. The Datsun Go is one of the most highly anticipated hatchbacks of the year as the car might just have a starting ex-showroom price of below Rs 3 lakhs. We can say this because the company has stated that the top model of the car will come with a sub Rs 4 lakh ex-showroom price so we can safely expect the base variant to be priced around the Rs 3 lakh mark.

The Datsun Go will be sold via the ‘shop-in-shop’ route in the country under which the current Nissan dealerships will have a certain area converted to a Datsun dealership and the cars will be sold through the same showrooms. The company currently has 117 dealerships which it aims to expand to 145 before the year ends and all these dealerships will be the ones selling the Go and will be responsible for its servicing and spares. The possibilities of having exclusive Datsun dealerships are also being considered but having a dealership for a single car would not really make a lot of sense.

Datsun Go Interiors

The Datsun Go derives its power from a 1.2 litre petrol motor which has a maximum power output of 68PS and a peak torque figure of 104NM. The engine gets mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. The car seems good enough to seat 5 adults with additional space to keep your small luggage being provided as well at the front, courtesy the joined front seat.

The company is trying to increase its footprint in the country with a special focus on Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. However, the Tier 1 cities will be one getting the majority of the attention initially as these are the ones that bring the maximum amount of sales. The Datsun Go seems like a well rounded off no-nonsense sort of a hatchback which is expected to do exceptionally well in the country and if the price is right, the Go might be the one which turns around Hyundai’s fortunes.
