2015 Maruti Suzuki YRA hatchback caught completely undisguised

Maruti Suzuki has always been known for the low cost vehicles it has on sale and that has allowed it to constantly bring in large volumes across the complete lineup. But on the flipside, it has also meant that it can’t sell premium cars. The failure of a slew of its cars like SX4, Grand Vitara and Kizashi have played testament to the same. But the recent success of the Ciaz has meant that people are still trusting the company with slightly premium products and it will soon launch the YRA hatchback to further strengthen its belief.

The Maruti Suzuki YRA hatchback will be positioned above the Swift as a premium hatchback and the same has just been caught on camera in the country without any camouflage. The hatchback will be bigger than the Swift and will get a feature list that matches that of the Elite i20 as it currently is one the best selling premium hatchbacks in the country. It will get LED tail lights at the rear that somewhat resemble those of the A-Class to quite an extent.

One of the variants caught on test was a top end one and it came with alloys and chrome handles alongside a chrome lip spoiler on the bootlid below the wind screen at the rear. You get a U-shaped grille up front and headlights will remind you of Swift. The interiors will go on to become premium by a large margin over the Swift and it will feature blue illumination on the inside. The centre console will house a touchscreen infotainment system that will be controlling majority of the things.

It will come loaded with all the bells and whistles for the top end model with features such as automatic climate control, ABS, ESP, Dual airbags, reverse parking camera, touchscreen infotainment system and so on. It would get the same 1.2 litre K-series petrol engine and 1.3 litre diesel motor as the current generation Swift. The gearbox will be a 5-speed manual transmission in all likelihood and it may get an automatic gearbox as well. Expect its prices to start at about Rs 5.2 lakh for the base petrol model and go up till Rs 7.5 lakh for the top end diesel.
