Veerangana Express is an Auto-rickshaw service for women by women

Women’s safety in India has always been in question. Apart from safety women also face many difficulties while traveling or commuting. This becomes very annoying for working women who doesn’t have any option except to travel via public transports. So, to ease commuting for women, Tata Motors partnered with Laxmibai Mahila Nagrik Sahakari Bank and SGS Motors to launch Veerangana Express in Gwalior.

Veerangana Express is an autorickshaw service for women by women

Veerangana Express is a first-of-its-kind auto rickshaw service for the women by the women. This service has been started to make commuting for women a bit easy and comfortable. The auto rickshaw isn’t an auto rickshaw but a Tata Magic IRIS and as it will be driven by women drivers; women passengers will feel safe and comfortable. The women drivers will be trained by M/S SGS Motors, an authorised dealer of Tata Motors as per the guidelines of Bank and District Administration. The programme has been funded by Laxmibai Mahila Sahakari Bank and is being supported by the District Collector and Transport Department. This service is being assisted by the District Industrial center by way of 30% subsidy (on-road price) under ‘Mukhya Mantri Swarojgar Yojana’ which is an initiative by the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.

Alka Srivastava, Founder, Laxmibai Mahila Nagrik Sahakari Bank, said that women empowerment has been the organisation’s sole focus and Veerangana Express will see more self-independent women in the society. The Veerangana Pink Cabs, which is for the women and by the women, will further encourage women, without having to worry about their commuting woes.

Veerangana Express has been provided auto-rickshaw permits by Transport Department on girls’ school & college, girls’ hostel etc., within Municipal limits in Gwalior. At first eight Tata Magic IRIS (diesel) has been provided. Later on, as women will get aware about the Veerangana Express service and the number of daily commuters using this service will increase; more Tata Magic IRIS will be provided. The Magic IRIS for Veerangana Express has been painted in pink and white which will make it easy to spot.
