The Indian car major is already busy with the pre-production activities for the new Tata Kite hatchback. The Kite will be the first of the two new car model launches from the stable of Tata Motors in the current fiscal. The Kite hatchback’s launch will be soon followed by the introduction of the Kite compact sedan.

It had been reported earlier that Tata is planning to launch the first of the Kite twins in this year’s festive season, and October is a great time as it is the peak of the festive season with Durga Puja or Dussehra reigning the month. Tata Motors is thus, all braced up to rake in some great sales volumes by launching a brand new car during the festive season, which is the best time to launch new cars in India.

The brand new Tata Kite bares slight resemblance to the very popular and aging Tata Indica, but only on structural aspect. The Kite hatchback’s face flaunts the company’s new honeycomb radiator grille also seen on the Zest and Bolt. The Kite gets an overall smart design language with sleek headlights, a sporty looking front bumper with large air dam and fog lights.

The new upcoming Tata Kite will get two engine choices – a newly developed 1.05 liter, 3 cylinder diesel motor and the acclaimed 1.2 litre Revotron petrol mill offering 71.6PS of power and 140Nm of torque and 90PS and 140Nm, respectively. While a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox will be standard, an AMT gearbox may be also on the cards.

Post launch, the new Tata Kite hatchback will rival the popular Maruti Celerio, Chevrolet Beat and Ford Figo. The Kite will sit below the Tata Bolt hatchback and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 3.5 – Rs. 6.0 lakhs.
