Mahindra’s latest offering for its Indian customers is a sub 4 meter SUV called the TUV300. The vehicle is now officially launched in the Indian market starting at Rs 6.9 lakh (Ex showroom, Pune). The TUV300 did grab a lot attention and many spy pictures and teaser images have been hovering on the Internet for quite some time. Many speculations were also made but now as the TUV300 is official let us have a look at what it has to offer.
Mahindra TUV300, like we said earlier, is a sub 4 meter compact SUV. This isn’t the first sub 4 meter SUV which the company has manufactured. Mahindra Quanto, which was nothing but a toned down variant of the Mahindra Xylo, has been in this segment for a few years. The new TUV300 is very different from the Quanto. In fact, the vehicle has been designed to grab a lot attention on the road.
The TUV300 gets a nice road presence. The front end looks great and it does resemble to that of the Bolero. The square fog lamps are a nice touch to the front bumper. The vertical design of the grille with the wide air intakes makes the TUV300 a rugged looking vehicle. The side view of the TUV300 is a little boxy. The B and C pillar are inclined too much which makes the overall design a bit out of proportion. The rear end of the TUV300 gets vertically stacked tail lights. Also, the spare wheel is mounted on the tail gate. It looks good and SUV-ish. Overall, the Mahindra TUV300 is a good package in terms of looks, design and style.
Mahindra has made sure that the cabin space on the TUV300 is more than enough for its occupants. Therefore, it has mounted the wheels at the very end of the chassis giving the vehicle a large wheelbase and hence a lot of room inside the cabin. The interiors of the TUV300 look mature and nicely sorted. Mahindra has opted for a dual tone beige and black color scheme for the interiors. This combination along with the large amount of cabin space makes the TUV300 feel very airy. Mahindra has also used brushed silver inserts at many places to give a premium feel.
Under the hood of the new TUV300 is a 1.5 liter 3 cylinder mHawk80 diesel engine which has been tuned to produce a max power of 84 bhp and 230 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 5 speed manual transmission as standard but Mahindra has also made an autoSHIFT AMT unit available. It is offered in the higher variants.
Mahindra TUV300 is available at all Mahindra dealerships across the country. It has a starting price of Rs 6.90 lakh (Ex showroom, Pune) for the base variant and goes all the way up to Rs 9.12 lakh (Ex showroom, Pune) for the top end variant. The TUV300 is available is 7 different colors.
