Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) has created a stir in the two wheeler industry in the domestic market. The company is undoubtedly among the top two wheeler manufacturers of the country and now as per latest sales figures provided by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) for first quarter of FY 2015-16, HMSI has become the No.1 selling 2Wheeler brand across 8 States and 1 Union Territory across India. These are Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Kerala, Punjab, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Goa and Chandigarh (Union Territory).
As per the new sales figures Honda has become the No.1 two-wheeler company for 1st time in 3 new States (Gujarat, Punjab, Delhi). It is the new leader in Delhi with 33 per cent market share. With 60 per cent share in automatic scooter segment, nearly 2 in 3 scooters sold in Delhi belongs to Honda. The overall market share of Honda in automatic scooter segment is above 50 per cent in 27 states.
Commenting on Honda’s performance, Mr. Keita Muramatsu, President & CEO, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, said that in the first quarter of FY 2015-16, Honda grew 5 times faster than the industry. Honda 2Wheeler is now the ‘Most preferred 2-wheeler brand’ in an impressive 8 States and 1 Union Territory. Their strategy to launch many new models in both scooter and motorcycle segments, network expansion in smaller towns, increased flexibility in production mix to meet demand and top of mind brand recall brand has been well accepted in the market.
Overall, Honda’s all India market share grew 2 per cent points to 26 per cent in first quarter of FY 2015-16. Within States, Honda’s market share zoomed to over 50 per cent in 2 states and in 1 Union Territory (Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Goa), crossed 40 per cent mark in 2 key states (Maharashtra, Gujarat) and was well above 30 per cent mark in an additional 7 States (Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana).
On achieving the fete, Mr. Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, said that Honda’s success story is a result of the continued trust reposed by customers on the Honda brand. In fact, the overwhelming demand for the iconic Activa has led the brand cross one million sales in just five months of FY 15-16. The newly launched motorcycles Livo and CBR 650F are receiving a tremendous response. Now with the onset of festive season, they are confident of driving the next growth-curve for Honda in India.
