The trend for compact SUVs began in India a few years ago. Slowly and slowly we witnessed automobile manufacturers stepping into this segment. Renault is one of those manufacturers. Renault’s top most selling product in the Indian market is the Duster. It has given a good foundation to the company and now Renault is ready to strengthen that foundation with the new 2016 Renault Duster.
Just last month, Renault India showcased its new Duster at the Auto Expo. We knew that this new vehicle will be hitting the showrooms pretty soon but this soon, we didn’t expect. The 2016 Renault Duster has some major changes to show off for its prospective buyers. Let’s get to it.
The biggest addition in the new 2016 Renault Duster is the availability of India’s first 6-speed Easy – R Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). This new transmission equipped with the K9K 1.5 L dCi Engine is promised to give a combination of high performance and an excellent fuel efficiency. This diesel mill churns out a max power of 110 PS at 4000 RPM and delivers a peak torque figure of 245 Nm at 1750 RPM. All this torque is available at quite low rev ranges and the new 6-speed gearbox uses its brain to give an optimal output with a claimed fuel economy of 19.72 kpl (ARAI).
Mr. Sumit Sawhney, Country CEO and Managing Director, Renault India Operations said on the launch of the new 2016 Duster that the Duster is a perfect example of Renault’s core specialty of concept innovation, where they redefine an existing segment, offering something new to the customer. Success in the automotive space is led by clutter-breaking products that rewrite automotive trends and make customers’ lives better. Over the years, Duster has firmly etched Renault on India’s automotive map and has achieved a cult status. With the new 6-speed Easy – R Automated Manual Transmission and several technical and design enhancements offered at a compelling price, they are confident that the New Duster will lead their expansion plans in India and strengthen their position in the compact SUV segment.
So apart from the new 6-speed AMT thing, the 2016 Renault Duster also has other new offerings. It is now built on a new ‘CMO10’ & ‘T4 E&E’ architecture, which means that the new Duster is safer, smoother and a better handler. In terms of aesthetics, Renault has revised the front as well as the rear of the Duster. It now features electrically adjustable ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, Water-fall LED tail lamps, Hawk Eye Cluster Headlamps, Fire-fly Fog Lamps, 16” Gun Metal Finish Alloy wheels and Kayak Roof Rails.
The interiors of the new 2016 Renault Duster have also been updated with a new Crimson-Black theme with sporty Double Spacer Fabric for AWD and a Cedarwood-Black Interiors theme with Premium Embossed Fabric for other variants. This comes along with Dual Tone Soft Touch dashboard. Other features include new Rear View Camera with guidelines, new Automatic Air Conditioning, new Auto-up/down window with anti-pinch, new Media Nav, and new Centre Fascia. Safety-wise the new Duster has ABS, EBD with Brake Assist, Dual Airbags, ESP & Hill start assist.
