Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm 2016: Day 1 Ended Spectacularly

Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm 2016, one of the most popular rallying events in India, at last was flagged off today among all the excitement and zeal. The Day 1 was extremely spectacular for both the participants and the spectators. While the participants were pushing themselves and their machines to limits and desiring for doing better than the others, the local spectators were enjoying the fast cars passing them by in dust. They were also cheering for the participants. Leg 1 & 2 of the extreme category had two competitive stages of 57 Kms and 24 Kms length around Hanumangarh district, nestled on the banks of the River Ghaggar, also revered by the locals as ancient river Saraswati in the colorful state of Rajasthan.

Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm 2016 gave a tiring day 1 for the participants

As you guys know that the Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm is divided into different categories, so we will talk about them separately. Starting with the Xtreme Car category, participants in this category drove over a total distance of approx 300 kms and gave everything they had to beat the others. It was Abhishek Mishra from Jaipur and his navigator PV Srinivas Murthi who lead the category by clocking 1:17:27 hrs. He said that the heat in desert could sometimes be unforgiving. The only way to survive a motorsport as difficult as this is by becoming one with the machine. You have to know your vehicle like the back of your hand. It’s the true Darwinian philosophy of ‘Survival of the fittest’.

Following them were the Manali man, Suresh Rana, and his navigator Ashwin Naik, in their Grand Vitara, clocking in 1:22:38 hrs. The third place was occupied by Amanpreet Ahluwalia and Virender Kashyapare as they clocked 1:26:35 hrs in their Maruti Gypsy.

In the Moto, Xtreme Bike category, acclaimed motorsport rallyist C.S Santosh continues to lead at 1:24:28 hrs. Jess David is at the second position with a time of 1:26:12 hrs and holding the third place is Aravind KP by clocking 1:28:30 hrs. In the NDure category, motorists traveled the same distance as XTreme teams but in the Time Speed Distance format in the Leg 1 & 2 of the event. Holding the lead is SK Ajgar Ali and his navigator MK Mohammed Musthafa with a day end penalty of 00:00:05 hrs. Suresh Kumar and his navigator Mendiratta V. Sekar are following the leader with a day end penalty of 00:00:12 hrs and in the third place is Jagmeet Gill and Chandan Sen with day end penalty of 00:00:13 hrs. In the Explore category, Sachin Singh with M Prakash held the first place on day 1, followed by Pratap and T. Nagarajan at the second and third position by Rajesh Chalana with Arindam Ghosh.

Day 1 of the Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm gave the participants a taste of what’s more they will have to face in the remaining days of the rally. The Day 2 of the rally will leave for Bikaner where the participants will compete around Badrasar and Bhandarwala villages.
