Indian car market is eagerly waiting from the country’s leading car maker, Maruti Suzuki to launch its new Ignis compact crossover. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis was first introduced to India by the company at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo. During the auto show the Indo-Japanese car major also revealed that the Ignis is scheduled to launch in India around this year’s festive season. However, recently there has been a huge buzz about Maruti delaying the launch of the Ignis due to the heavy build up of orders for the Baleno premium hatchback and the Vitara Brezza subcompact SUV. As these delay speculations spread across disheartening Maruti car lovers, the company decided to clear the air itself.
Maruti Suzuki has finally come forward and denied the speculations of the Ignis’ launch plans being delayed. The Indo-Japanese car major said that the Maruti Suzuki Ignis’ launch was never delayed and it will take place as per the original schedule. Thus, it is now official that the Ignis will come during this year’s upcoming festive season, around Diwali.
The car market of India will be the second market to receive the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Japan being the first market where the compact crossover will debut. In the car market of India, the Ignis compact crossover will not have any direct competitor, but post its launch here it will go against the Mahindra KUV100 although the two cars belong to two different segments.
It is also pretty much certain that the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be a premium compact crossover model and will be exclusively offered for sale in the Indian car market through the car maker’s Nexa premium dealership network. Hence, the Ignis will be the third product from the house Maruti that will be joining the growing clan of the company’s premium models that are offered only through the premium Nexa showrooms, the first two being the Baleno premium hatchback and the S-Cross premium compact crossover.
The new upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ignis will come flaunting a great contemporary, sharp and futuristic styling. It will have crossover features of high ground clearance, tough and aggressive design language, body cladding and wide rear windshield to appeal to the compact SUV lovers. It will have a stylish front fascia with projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, blackened B-pillars and flared wheel arches. At the rear, the car gets big split tail lights, rear bumper cladding and broad C-pillars which add to its sporty profile.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is likely to come powered by Suzuki’s new 1.0 liter BoosterJet petrol engine and will get paired to a 5 speed manual transmission. While there’s still no work about the vehicle’s diesel avatar, it is expected to join the lineup at a later date.
The cool mini crossover/SUV models that come with conveniences of a SUV along with hatchback-like attributes such as compact dimensions, stylish urban design and competitive pricing, is certain to get more interesting contenders in the future.
