The Indian car market is witnessing outstanding growth in SUV segments, and all the car majors operating in the country are eager to offer as many SUV models as possible to reap maximum benefits. In keeping with the trend, the country’s second largest car maker, Hyundai Motor India is planning to launch as many as 4 SUV models in order to expand its SUV portfolio and make the most of the growing SUV market of India. The Hyundai SUV portfolio currently consists of the Hyundai Creta and the flagship Hyundai Santa Fe models, while there’s also the Hyundai i20 Active crossover.
As per the reports, Hyundai Motor India is considering to launch 4 SUV models in the coming four years’ time in order to cater to the rising demands of the Indian car market and boost the sales of the company. While commenting on the company’s developments Hyundai Motor India’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Y.K Koo told the media that the company just launched the all new Hyundai Elantra and by the period of October-November, the company will also launch new Tucson SUV.
The South Korean car major is also working on an all-new sub-4 metre compact SUV model based on the Carlino concept compact SUV which was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in February. This subcompact SUV will be placed below the Creta and will directly go against the immensely popular Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza post its Indian launch.
It is clear that in due course of time Hyundai will offer two more SUV models apart from the Tucson and the Carlino based mini SUV. Koo also revealed that the launch of these 4 SUV models will happen in over at least four years’ of time.
He also mentioned that the new Hyundai Tucson will be launched powered by a 2,000 cc petrol and a diesel motor choice and tagged at Rs. 25 to Rs. 30 lakhs.
Hyundai Motor India’s Senior VP Marketing & Sales, Mr. Rakesh Srivastava revealed that the company has a three pronged strategy. Hyundai Motor India will follow an accurate timeframe for full model changes, will enter new segments where it currently doesn’t currently have presence, and will enter the sub-segments with great potential for growth in the future. He added by saying that the company will launch 1 to 2 products every year to expand/refresh its portfolio and increase its market share.
Srivastava further said that Hyundai Motor India wishes to become the country’s leading premium car maker and strengthen its popularity.
When asked about the company’s plans regarding the diesel cars in the future, Srivastava said that as the price difference between petrol and diesel fuels is reducing, the compact car segments will gradually go the petrol way and Hyundai Motor India will be following the market trend.
Including the new Hyundai Elantra premium sedan, Hyundai Motor India’s current portfolio has 11 models, which starts with the entry-level Eon hatchback and go up to the flagship Santa Fe premium SUV.
