The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has been a huge success ever since the premium hatchback model was launched in October 2015. The Maruti Baleno has won over the hearts of the Indian car buyers with its fresh and sporty styling, great quality and host of premium features, and the car is very well accepted in the international car markets as well. The Baleno is inching towards its first anniversary in this upcoming festive season, and we all surely expect the Indo-Japanese car major to offer something special in the Baleno lineup pretty soon. While a special anniversary model of the premium hatchback could be very well on the cards, Maruti Suzuki seems to be currently busy working on the Baleno petrol SHVS version.
For some time now, Maruti Suzuki has been speculated to be preparing a new model of its very popular Baleno premium hatchback. The sportier Baleno RS is already a highly anticipated launch which is expected to come by the end of this year and packs in the punchy new Boosterjet petrol engine. Now, apart from the Baleno RS which has been caught testing in India several times, another new model of the Baleno has been spotted testing. And this is the Baleno petrol SHVS, which has been in the talks recently.
A set of spied shots of a testing Baleno model which has been recently released by an automotive site, is believed to be that of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno petrol SHVS model. The test mule was snapped when it was busy testing the roads of Mumbai. It is being speculated that the Indo-Japanese car major will launch the Baleno petrol SHVS version in the domestic car market of India. However, it is yet not confirmed and there’s also no knowledge on whether this Baleno petrol SHVS models will be getting powered by the new 1.0 liter boosterjet engine or the familiar 1.2 liter mill that runs the regular petrol version of the premium hatchback.
As the name suggests, the Maruti Baleno petrol SHVS will be a mild petrol hybrid version of the hatchback similar to the diesel SHVS models of the Ciaz and Ertiga that are already available in India. As for the Baleno, the car’s diesel SHVS hybrid model is already offered on sale in Europe, while in India it is yet to come. When launched, the Baleno petrol SHVS will be the first mild petrol hybrid car from the company.
The Maruti Baleno petrol SHVS is expected to launch with some minor cosmetic changes including new set of alloys, while mechanical changes would include rear disc brakes apart from others.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is currently available in India with a 1.2L K-Series petrol mill offering 83 bhp of power and 115 Nm of torque and a 1.3L DDiS diesel motor delivering 74 bhp and 190 Nm. The sportier and more powerful Baleno RS will soon launch in India equipped with a 1.0L Boosterjet turbocharged petrol mill that offers 110 bhp and 170 Nm.
